Description of Scheduled Activities:
)Hook Activity - Cartoon Analysis: Have the political cartoon from this page projected when students arrive. The teacher should also post the full title of the cartoon to help in analysis. Instruct the students to write down their interpretation of the cartoon.
)Video - Christianity and Chinese Salvation: Teacher will launch the Harvard Free Course lecture called Christianity and Chinese Salvation. Students will watch from the 36:25 minute mark to the 43:00 minute mark.
)Role-Play: After viewing the video, have students make small groups of 2-4 students. Then provide each group with a document set. Each document set has 2 different possible figures. Instruct students to imagine dialogue for each figure if they were to encounter each other. This should take about 10 minutes. Then tell the students to come up with a quick skit (less than 30 seconds). That skit should clearly demonstrate the roles of the people in the documents and may use the imagined dialogue. This should take no more than 7-8 minutes. Student groups will take turns performing their skits. Their class members should try and determine their roles based on the skit performed. This should take no more than thirty minutes.
)Homework Assignment: Instruct students to read the background page for the DBQ in preparation for the next day's activities.
